After experiencing what was likely the most difficult year of our lives, we needed details that promised us hope and brought us happiness. On December 9, Pantone announced that the 2021 Colors of the Year were Ultimate Gray and Illuminating Yellow, chosen for their warmth and dependability.
Pantone describes yellow as "a bright and cheerful yellow sparkling with vivacity, a warming yellow shade imbued with solar power," and gray as "solid and dependable elements which are everlasting and provide a firm foundation."
The selection of two independent colors highlights how different elements come together to express a message of strength and hope that is both enduring and uplifting. The union of Ultimate Gray with Illuminating Yellow conveys a message of positivity supported by fortitude.
