Kabak Bay, Kaputaş Beach: The Bays That Inspire Our Products

We have all gone through some very difficult times together. We experienced an event that, if someone were to describe it, we would say "no way, that only happens in movies," and its effects are still continuing all over the world. The coronavirus affected us deeply. We all locked ourselves in our homes, and started to conduct our classes and meetings from home. We all became worn out and bored during this process. As of June, we slowly started to return to normal. In our new normal, we have started to socialize a bit more by following social distancing rules, taking walks, and returning to the activities we love.

I started this new normal by doing what I have enjoyed most for years: camping. Throughout this whole quarantine period, one of the questions I was most curious about was "will I be able to swim in the sea this summer?". As someone born and raised in Izmir, I had never experienced not seeing the sea. As someone who literally lives to surf and camp, I seized the first opportunity I could find and escaped to Kabak Bay.

No matter how hard I try to describe it, I cannot convey how beautiful Fethiye is. Fethiye, where every corner is a hidden paradise, is a place many of us dream of living. Every time I go, I am mesmerized once again. In this summer of 2020, I went to Kabak Bay, where I had never been before. Kabak Bay, one of the most beautiful bays in Fethiye, consists of a deep canyon-shaped valley with a rare geological structure in Turkey, surrounded by mountains on three sides, and a pebbly beach where this valley opens to the sea.

In my opinion, the beauty of Kabak Bay also comes from the difficulty of reaching it :) You have probably heard of the Kabak Bay waterfall. The waterfall, which takes a little time to get to, is a place every tourist who comes to Kabak Bay must see. A peaceful waterfall will be waiting for you after a long hike in the mountains. When I say long, it really is long, and a path that might challenge some of you. Especially if you are not used to these types of mountain hikes, the route and thirst might challenge you. If you don't mind the length, you can also enjoy the scenery. A crystal clear, fresh spring water will be waiting for you at the waterfall.

If you are thinking of a vacation in nature where you can swim in the sea and find peace in its silence, I definitely recommend Kabak Bay. You can either camp or stay in bungalow houses. Kabak Bay is especially preferred for camping because people feel quite comfortable and safe when setting up camp. The locals I met in Kabak say that until about 3-4 years ago, mostly groups of young people used to come and set up tents wherever they wanted, and no one interfered with anyone. Although Kabak Bay, which has become quite popular with the influence of Instagram and social media, is not as it used to be, I still think it is one of the most beautiful places to go camping.

Moreover, it was quite calm due to the time I went. The fact that it was not crowded and that I could comfortably enjoy the sea and nature made me very happy. With this calmness and happiness, I also stopped by Kaputaş Beach, which I usually hesitate to go to because of the crowds.

Kaputaş Beach is located in Kalkan, Antalya. If you want to stop by this beach, you will need to park your car on the road. Usually, it can be difficult to find a parking spot because it is very crowded. The beach is quite far below road level. You need to descend 187 steps from the main road to get down to the beach.

With the effect of it not being crowded, we took full advantage of the beauty of Kaputaş Beach. The sea at Kaputaş is quite cold because the spring water meets the sea there. It is even so cold that it can make you shiver even on hot summer days. This small bay, which has free entry, has a beautiful, wavy, and clean sea. But what impressed me the most is the color of the sea. It has a magnificent sea and natural beauty with color tones changing from light green to blue. It may vary depending on what you like and dislike, but in my opinion, it is one of the most beautiful beaches in Turkey!
