A Legend: The Life of Jewelry Designer Elsa Peretti

Born in Florence, Elsa Peretti came to New York in 1969 and began to carve her path in the fashion world by working with Halston. Her talent for design quickly turned heads. Having first designed perfume bottles and jewelry for Halston, Elsa managed to attract the attention of a world-famous brand like Tiffany & Co. with the power of the impact she created at the time. 

Peretti, who was also a model, managed to quickly stand out from the models of that era with her tall stature, short jet-black hair, and the warm, colorful personality brought by her Mediterranean roots. She even managed to grab the attention of one of the prominent photographers of the time, Helmut Newton, and they brought one of the iconic shots, Bunnygirl, to life together. 

Elsa Peretti, who wanted to narrate the power and fearlessness of women in her accessories, designed one of her iconic accessories, the Bone Cuff, inspired by human bones she saw in a church as a child, and it has graced the wrists of many important names such as Sophia Loren, Liza Minnelli, and Naomi Watts. 

She succeeded in winning the hearts of every age group with her necklace titled Open Heart. By gaining the appreciation of women of every style, it perhaps became one of her most beloved pieces. Its soft curves and the opening in the center of the heart revealed the inspiration she drew from the works of the famous sculptor Henry Moore.

When we look at Elsa Peretti’s style, we can see that she balances the masculinity within her with the elegance of femininity. With a style that is far from excessive yet glamorous, she manages to distinguish herself from many accessory designers.
